On the occasion of the International Girls in ICT Day, Republic of Serbia and Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications organized a celebration on 24 April 2014 in the MP's Club in Belgrade.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić opened the meeting. Pointing to the huge employment potential of the sector, she stated that ICT sector has the greatest employment potential and that it is therefore necessary to motivate girls to assert themselves in this area. The meeting was attended by 150 graduate female students from Belgrade high schools. They were addressed by successful women in the sector of ICT, education, activism and entrepreneurship.

For the fourth time in a row, this event is being marked in Serbia with the aim of bringing ICT closer to young women and presenting them with the employment opportunities in this field, as well as to encourage girls to think about their future in the ICT sector and other areas where the use of information technology will be key to the development of their careers. The initiative to mark a day dedicated to motivate young women to opt for a career in the field of information and communication technologies, engineering and science came from the Republic of Serbia, and the proposal was accepted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2010.
