This year, with the initiation of "Women and Information Society" NGO, "International Girls in ICT Day" has been celebrated in Armenia.

The celebration is an excellent opportunity to encourage girls to choose a career in ICT. Girls are often actively discouraged by families, teachers and career advisors from pursuing further studies or careers in the ICT field. It is necessary to break down some of the stereotypes concerning girls and women working in traditionally male dominated ICT sector.

"Girls can develop ICT" forum took place on 26 April 2012 in American University of Armenia.

200 high-school girls and students  participated in forum. They came from different schools and universities in Yerevan .

During the forum, successful women of the ICT sector, from science, education, government, industry and civil society shared their knowledge and experience as well as their road to success.

Also, awards in various categories were granted to young girls based on the competition results.

The event wasorganized with the support of Ministry of Economy of Republic of Armenia, USAID Enterprise Development & Market Competitiveness Project, Enterprise Incubator Foundation jointly with Armenian-Indian Center for Excellence in ICT, Regional Mobile Application Laboratory for ECA, Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia, American University of Armenia  and Armenian Leading telecommunication Operator GNC-ALFA.

"Women and Information Society" NGO was established in September 2011, in Armenia. The organization mission is to contribute in integration of women and girls to Information Society in Armenia.
