Page 20 - Implementation of the ITU-T International Standards for the Sustainable Management of Electrical and Electronic Equipment: On the road to a circular economy in Argentina
P. 20
Among the main outcomes of COP27 were the creation of a specific fund for losses and
damages, the creation of a new five-year work programme to promote climate technology
solutions in developing countries, the launch of a work programme on mitigation aimed at
increasing urgently the level of ambition, and the implementation of mitigation measures.
The National Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Plan 2030 synthesizes Argentina's
policies to limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and develop coordinated responses to adapt
vulnerable territories, ecosystems, sectors, and communities to the impacts of climate change.
Through this plan, our country specifies in detail the means and measures to take in order
to achieve the adaptation and mitigation goals set out in its Second NDC (Nationally
Determined Contribution) and its update. The plan's goals are not to exceed the net emission
of 349 MtCO2e by 2030, an objective applicable to all sectors of the economy, and to build
capacities, strengthen resilience, and reduce vulnerability to climate change in the different local
governments and sectors, through measures that prioritize vulnerable communities and social
groups, and incorporating the gender perspective and intergenerational equity. This plan is
implemented through six strategic lines: energy transition, sustainable mobility, sustainable and
resilient territories, biodiversity and common goods conservation, sustainable management of
food systems and forests, and a productive transition.
Within the strategic line of a productive transition, the Circular Economy is a line of action that
includes measures aimed at valorizing the different industry waste streams. The study will enable
to set up of strategies for transformation, reducing the WEEE generated and the consumption
of raw materials.
This Case Study provides basic information obtained through the ITU-T Recommendations
methodologies to develop strategies to boost the implementation of the Circular Economy
model in the WEEE sector. It will also make it easier to set up new strategies to raise awareness
of the value chain players on e-waste and recommendations to improve the WEEE management
system.
