Implementation of the ITU-T International Standards for the Sustainable Management of
Electrical and Electronic Equipment: On the road to a circular economy in Argentina

                   1.2 Definition of the scope

Considering the wide range of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) circulating in a country
or region, it is important to define the geographic area to be covered by the inventory and
the categories of equipment included. For this Case Study, the databases described in section
3.1.1 were used. A selection of the most relevant categories of EEE, which are referred to as
tracers, was made. Section 3.2.2 on EEE categories, the definition of tracers, describes in detail
the concept of tracers and the selection of tracers for the case of Argentina.

In addition, and according to international recommendations, surveys were carried out to
characterize the sector in broad terms, but due to their limited number, they did not allow the
reality of the country to be represented.

1 2 1 Methodology for estimating the amount of WEEE

Recommendation ITU-T L.1031 identifies two methodologies for estimating the quantities of
WEEE, one based on the market supply and the other on consumption. Both methodologies
are explained in detail in section 3.3 Methodology for estimating WEEE.

The scope of the implementation of Recommendation ITU-T L.1031 in Argentina is shown in
                   Figure 3.
