Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer
for South America (BCRCSA)
The Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for South America
(BCRCSA) on hazardous and other waste is located in the National Institute of Industrial
Technology since 1999. It is a technological reference for the South American region, and its
objective is to train and strengthen the control and productive structures of the South American
region (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, and
Uruguay) to implement the objectives of the Basel Convention, acting as a link through the focal
points and the competent authorities of these countries, through:
1) Development and implementation of training programmes, courses, seminars and related
projects in the environmentally sound management of hazardous waste.
2) Strengthening mechanisms for the transfer of environmentally sound technology and the
minimization of hazardous waste generation in the region.
3) Training the trainers; and promotion of the ratification and implementation of the
Convention and its instruments.
4) Collection, evaluation, and dissemination of information on new or proven environmentally
sound technologies and knowledge related to rational environmental management and
the minimization of the generation of hazardous waste and other types of waste.
Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible Argentina
Argentina's Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development assists the President and
the Chief of Cabinet in matters related to environmental policy, sustainable development, the
rational use of natural resources and the fight against climate change. It also executes related
plans, programmes and projects and oversees pollution control, monitoring and prevention. In
addition, it promotes the sustainable development of the places where the population settles,
through actions that guarantee the quality of life, availability, and the conservation of natural
resources.
The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development is the enforcement authority that
coordinates the activities of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in coordination
with other institutions in Argentina. This project helps to advance a data strategy on the
Circular Economy that allows the analysis of inputs, waste, emissions, and energy losses with a
regenerative approach by slowing down, closing and reducing the magnitude of material and
energy cycles. For more information, visit https:// www .argentina .gob .ar/ ambiente.
