Mega Event 1: Int. Multi Topic Conference (IMTIC'15)

Dates: 11^th – 13^th February 2015

Following the consecutive success of IMTIC '08, IMTIC '12 and IMTIC'13, published by Springer CCIS series and indexed by DBLP, an International Multi Topic Conference 2015 (IMTIC '15) will continue its tradition in the Education Hub of Pakistan – Jamshoro. IMTIC'15 is being jointly organized by Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, Pakistan, Europan Union Erasmus Mundus INTACT (It's Time for CollaboratioN TowArds Close CooperaTion), Centre for Telecommunication Infrastructure (CTIF), Alborg Denmark, and University of Umm Al-Qura, Makkah, Saudi Arabia and is going to be held from Feb 11 - Feb 13, 2015. IMTIC'15 provides an International forum for researchers to exchange information regarding novel aspects of technology, application and service development within the multidisciplinary frame work of Information and Communication Technologies.

Main highlights of the Conference program are the keynote speakers from both industry and academia and panel discussion. There will be opportunities to attend interactive, high quality, peer reviewed sessions which will provide detailed insights from forward thinkers working in the themes of the conference. Additionally, there will be an exhibition for both international and niche market to display their latest products and services and to undertake a range of networking opportunities.

Mega Event 2: Int. Conf. on Wireless Sensor Networks for Developing Countries (WSN4DC'15)

Tentative Date: 4^th Quarter of 2015

After the huge success of three consecutive International Multi-topic ICT conferences (IMTIC'08, IMTIC'12, & IMTIC'13 www.muet.edu.pk/imtic/) held at Mehran University, and the 1st International Conference on Wireless Sensor Networks for Developing Countries (WSN4DC '13) jointly organized by Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan, Erasmus Mundus, StrongTies program and International Islamic University Malaysia. Following the tradition during the 4^th quarter of 2015, we are planning for 2^nd International Conference on Wireless Sensor Networks for Developing Countries (WSN4DC'15) which is being jointly organized by Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, Pakistan, Europan Union Erasmus Mundus INTACT (It's Time for CollaboratioN TowArds Close CooperaTion), Centre for Telecommunication Infrastructure (CTIF), Alborg Denmark, and University of Umm Al-Qura, Makkah, Saudi Arabia

With the emergence of electronics and nanotechnology the pervasive and ubiquitous environments are becoming reality. The key enabler technology for these environments is Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). We have seen lot of WSN advancement during recent past in military domain. The world is now well aware of the power of WSN and its applications, which are endless. The WSN4DC Conference aims to bring together a wide spectrum of international experts to facilitate a creative environment for the promotion of collaboration and knowledge transfer under the domain of WSN usage for Developing Countries (DC). In particular it will facilitate a dialogue between major industry players, entrepreneurs and academia to help create a roadmap for the development of tangible research environment in the developing countries. It is an international forum for researchers to exchange information regarding novel aspects of technology, application and service development within the WSN domain.

The proceedings of WSN4DC '15 Conference will also be published by Springer (TBD).
Additionally, the extended version of selected papers will be published as especial issue in reputed indexed journals (TBD).

WTISD is an annual event of ITU celebrated on 17^th of May, and therefore it provides a unique opportunity to bring together a uniquely comprehensive audience of public and private sector players at the highest level across the Globe including Academia. In this respect variety of events take place in the Telecom sector throughout the world.

It is an honor and privilege for the Dept. of Telecommunication Engg. MUET, to be part of ITU's 150^th celebration. WTISD is a regular event celebrated every year by the Dept. of Telecommunication Engg. The main feature of the event is a guest lecture and we invite people from Academia and Telecomm industry.

This year (2015) our plan is to celebrate the event on a much larger scale as per ITU 150^th celebration theme "Telecommunications and ICTs: drivers of innovation", which is also a theme for WTISD'15.

Series of Workshop/Seminar/Technical Video Sessions

Our target is to offer the workshops/seminars which will not only enhance the technical knowledge of the graduates but also give them an insight about the current research paradigm especially in the field of Telecommunication. As mentioned above, we are planning to organize series of workshop/seminar and are listed below:

Workshop :Tentative Date: 1^st Quarter of 2015

Title: Research Methodology and Technical Writing Tools

Summary of the Workshop:

The Department of Telecommunication Engineering, MUET, will organize a workshop on Research Methodology and Technical Writing Tools in conjunction with the 150^th Anniversary of ITU. Prime objectives of the said workshop are to make students aware of:

q Research Methodology

q To get familiar with Bibliography, Citations and Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) indexing methods

q Introduction to Technical Writing Tools

q Formulating a Research Paper using Latex

The main focus of the workshop is to introduce with the latest trends in research and also train them with research writing tools like LaTeX so that they could meet up the requirements of today's research community. LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system. It includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de-facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents and is a free ware. Our target audience is the 3rd and Final Year students of the Faculty of Electrical Electronics and Computer Systems (FEECE) and we are aiming to provide them hands-on training. The purpose is to make them capable to produce high quality research papers and technical documents.

Series of Technological Video Sessions

Title: Technovid

Summary of the Video Session:

TechnoVid is a series of technological video sessions. The session is organized every month with a particular theme. The basic idea is to update students with latest trends in telecommunication technology through webinars and video based trainings. Each session is based upon a particular theme. TechnoVid will provide a platform where students share their innovative ideas and present them in the form of short videos. This year, TechnoVid sessions would be organized to celebrate 150 years of ITU and will be based upon ITU's theme "Telecommunications and ICTs: drivers of innovation"..

In Technovid we are also planning to arrange video conferencing sessions. These sessions will be delivered by the Professors working in the area of ICT in world's renowned universities. Such as: Dr. Tahir from University of Denmark, Prof. Dr. Ing. Hermann De Meer from University of Passau, Germany.

Seminar

Tentative Date: 3^rd Quarter of 2015

Title: Low Cost Business Ideas in ICT: Gearing Graduate towards Digital Entrepreneurship

Summary of the Seminar:

With reference to the ITU 150^thcelebration theme "Telecommunications and ICTs: drivers of innovation", main purpose of the seminar is to introduce Graduate with the concept of digital Entrepreneurship and to showcase that how the new ICT development can change the global business landscape. Today's digital era is one of the vital sources of growth for national economy for a country like Pakistan. Digital technologies are not only helpful to create job opportunities for fresh graduates/individuals but it also improves one's life and help building a better society. People from every walk of life i.e. academia, governments, enterprises are connected to digital technologies one or the other way. It is true if we say that the digital technologies are changing people's lives i.e. the ways they communicate with one another, their life style, and the way they socialize with one another and definitely the ways of education as well. Digital technologies are also helpful in reshaping the traditional ways of doing business. New technological developments are helpful to speed up and improve the way new innovative products and services are introduced /conceived, developed, produced and accessed. They are enabling businesses not only to grow with faster pace but to bring market innovative products and services that was impossible to think about before. Digital technologies are completely re-shaping the business environment but also is sharpening the market intelligence, improving the efficiency, reducing the time-to-market and increasing the customer satisfaction.

Our target audience in the above mentioned seminar is the 3rd and Final Year students of the Faculty of Electrical Electronics and Computer Systems (FEECE) and we are aiming to provide them opportunity for career building. The purpose is to make them capable not to rely upon others rather start new businesses in the field of ICT.

Furthermore, all the above mentioned events at MUET will be organized in collaboration with IEEE Communications Society - Karachi Chapter.
