ORGANIZATION OF COUNCIL WORKING GROUPS

A meeting was held recently to review the organization of Council Working Groups and to carry forward work under Resolutions 106, 107, 108 and 110. See summary of decisions.

By virtue of Resolutions 106, 108, 110 and 109 (Marrakesh, 2002), the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference resolved to review the following issues:

         - the ITU structure (Resolution 106)
         -  the functioning of the Coordination Committee and role of Elected
              Officials (Resolution 108)
         -  the contribution by Sector Members and Associates towards defraying
              the expenses of the Union (Resolution 110)
         -  the consolidation of provisions regarding observers (Resolution 109)

At its session in May 2003, the Council decided to create a Group with terms of reference consistent with Resolutions 106, 108, 110 and 109.   The terms of reference of the Group are set forth in Annex 1 to Council Resolution 1208 and the membership of the Group is shown in Annex 2.

The following chairmen were designated: 

         -   ITU structure: Mr. M. El Kadiri (Morocco)
         -   Functioning of Coordination Committee, Mr. A.R. Sharafat (Islamic
                  Rep. of Iran)
         -   Contribution by Sector Members and Associates [to be determined]
                  towards defraying the expenses of the Union
        -   Provisions regarding Observers: J. Doran (Canada)
