Summary: AI systems cover several ICT sub-sectors such as datacenters, end user equipment, networks. Several publications have estimated recently the energy and environmental impact of AI systems at worldwide level and country level but there is a lack of a robust methodology to perform these assessments. This work item aims to develop a methodology to perform these kinds of assessments, at worldwide, country and city levels. It will have a close link with L.1440, L.1450, L.1470rev, L.1472, L.1480; L.Env AI and L.Supp.examplesAI. The territorial perspective will be taken into account, as described in L.1472. This work item also aims to include the assessment of the consequences of the use of AI systems at worldwide, national and city levels. This guidance will be developed aligned with L.1480.
