Summary: With the continuous expansion and iterative upgrading of the global mobile communication network, the number of communication base stations has surged, leading to increasingly higher demands for the safety, reliability, and environmental friendliness of their backup power systems. Traditional backup batteries, such as lead-acid batteries, pose environmental pollution risks, while lithium-ion batteries carry potential safety hazards such as thermal runaway under extreme conditions, and their supply chains and resource sustainability face challenges. Aqueous zinc-based battery system demonstrates the high safety and environmental friendliness, which makes itself a promising sustainable alternative solution for telecommunication backup power. This recommendation describes aqueous zinc-based battery technologies, characteristics, evaluate and test battery products,. This proposal can:1) guide the transformation of base station power systems toward greater safety and environmental friendliness, reducing reliance on hazardous materials, minimizing environmental pollution and safety risks, and enhancing the sustainable development of base station infrastructure; 2) accelerate the development of not only aqueous zinc-based battery technology but also the promotion the industry chain, as well as facilitate mutual recognition and application of related products in the global market; 3) provide clear technical selection and operation and maintenance guidelines for operators and equipment manufacturers, thereby reducing procurement and maintenance costs; 4) support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and relevant initiatives of the International Telecommunication Union; and promote the equitable deployment of innovative green technologies in global communication networks, particularly providing reliable guarantees for communication infrastructure construction in developing countries and ecologically sensitive areas.
