Summary:
|
To ensure reliable operation of data centers, the stable operation of power feeding system is crucial. The power feeding system provides power to data center infrastructure and ICT systems and supports the operation of the equipment. Further, the requirements for GHG emission reduction for data center are becoming increasing, which introduces the deployment or interconnection between smart energy solutions and data center power feeding systems. The co-existence of conventional grid-based power feeding systems and smart energy solutions can introduce new issues. For example, wind or solar power generation exhibits intermittency of power generation; consequently, applying these smart energy solutions to the data center requires new operational management considerations.
Thus, there is an increasing demand for enhancing the stable and reliable management of power feeding systems in data center. Monitoring system for power feeding system ensures the operational continuity of data center infrastructure. It performs risk monitoring and accident mitigation of power feeding system, which can cause electrical accident (overloads, arc, short circuit, etc.) and damage to the equipment in the data center infrastructure. It also supports power quality monitoring of the power distribution line in the data center. Therefore, in order to support the stable and reliable operation of power feeding system, it is necessary to develop a monitoring system for power feeding system in data center.
This draft Recommendation presents an overview of low-voltage AC power feeding system in data center. Then, it defines the functional and informational requirements of monitoring system considering the integration with smart energy solutions. Finally, it defines a reference architecture for the monitoring system.
