Summary: Recently, there has been a demand to implement application services that require latency- deterministic services, such as industrial communication and games, in wireless access networks. there is an urgent need to support latency-deterministic services in wireless access networks of IMT-2020 and beyond. This proposed draft recommendation aims to specify IEC-based overlay signalling requirements and architecture for the operation and management of a latency-deterministic industrial wireless communication system. The IEC architecture is a well-defined cloud infrastructure to provide intelligence to the edge network. Recommendation ITU-T Q.5001 defined signalling messages for network functions and intelligent data processing on the defined reference points. Recommendation ITU-T Q.5007 specified the microservice-based IEC architecture to build an applicable IEC that can be deployed in real-world applications such as smart home, smart factory, smart city, etc. Based on the IEC framework, this proposed draft recommendation will support the operation and management of a latency-deterministic industrial wireless communication system.
