Summary: In the fixed broadband service, the broadband network gateway (BNG) is the portal for users to access the network and the policy enforcement point for controlling users' network behaviours. With economic development and changes in people's life and work style, new services, such as online education, telecommuting, cloud computers, and cloud games, are emerging. These new services pose higher requirements on service experience quality. Facing these emerging services, existing BNG have some gaps in user experience awareness, high-quality service assurance, and efficient O&M capabilities. It is necessary to enhance the BNG to support the emerging services. This draft Recommendation introduces the concept of intelligent enhancement for broadband network gateway. Based on control plane and user plane separated vBNG, intelligent enhancement for broadband network gateway introduces Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability to vBNG, improving the traffic identification, network and service quality awareness, and attack defense capability of BNG. The architecture, signalling requirements and signalling procedures of intelligent enhancement for broadband network gateway will be defined in this Recommendation.
