Summary:
|
The emergence of Internet of everything put forward the need for critical requirements on the IoT devices. Users requires the devices featuring with maintenance-free, low cost, and small size, be able to offers the ability to be placed on anything and interact with the network. However, most IoT devices consist with batteries, and the replacement or charging of the batteries limits the applicability of the IoT. To address these concerns, the ambient power-enabled IoT support by new capabilities is necessary. By embedding energy harvesting capabilities, the Ambient-IoT devices are able to collect energy from the ambient, the ambient energy source can include nature environment or dedicated device; furthermore, the network infrastructure can also act as an energy source that adopts radio wave as a carrier to transfer both information and energy to the devices.
This Recommendation provides an overview of ambient power-enabled Internet of things (Ambient-IoT). It provides the concept of the Ambient-IoT, the fundamental characteristics, requirements and capabilities of the Ambient-IoT.
