Summary: The KPIs that have been developed and that are documented in Recommendation ITU-T Y.4903 "Key performance indicators for smart sustainable cities to assess the achievement of sustainable development goals" are intended to help cities become smart, more sustainable and assist them with measuring progress to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As cities and communities globally have collected data and implemented the requirements of Recommendation ITU-T Y.4093, those same cities and communities express an ongoing need to visualize their progress to goals and benchmarks that can be set for each KPI. This visualization is key to better communicate progress to city leaders, staff, inhabitants, and other stakeholders. Many cities and communities communicate with their stakeholders to show progress and data for KPIs related to the environment, economy, society and culture through powerful visuals, many based on the simple traffic light concept (red - yellow - green), that easily communicates progress on key issues within the city or community. With the capabilities of digital technologies to collect and visual data to easily communicate KPI values and progress and be the basis to optimize city operations, there is a need to demonstrate to and guide cities and communities on the best use of digital technologies for visualizing KPIs. The development of use cases will demonstrate to cities and communities the benefits of both the use. of digital twins and the use of the KPIs within Recommendation ITU-T Y.4903.
