Summary: This Recommendation describes the quality estimation methods using equipment test results. The soft error rate in the natural environment can be calculated from the number of soft errors that occur during neutron irradiation. The severity of soft error impact on telecommunications systems, such as the impact on transmission signals and control systems, should be analysed from the error logs created during the test. Additional mitigation measures should be applied if the equipment is less reliable than the target quality. This Recommendation also describes guidelines for applying these mitigation measures in light of the results of soft error tests.
