Dr Touré's Official Visit to Paraguay: 21-22 April 2014

Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré (left) and His Excellency Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara, President of Paraguay During his visit of Asunción (Paraguay) organized by CONATEL, Dr Touré met with the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whom he congratulated for their work on Paraguay as ITU Council.

He gave a presentation on "Broadband for Sustainable Development" before high level representatives from both the Administration and Private Sector to discuss the benefits of a National Broadband in improving health and other government policy as well as practical ways to lower Internet costs.

Dr Touré stressed Paraguay's potential to become the centre of an interconnected international network and complimented WCIT's drafted Resolution on "Special measures for landlocked developing countries and small island developing states for access to international optical fibre networks".

As a result of his presence and advice, Dr Touré was awarded a Certificate as 'Distinguished Visitor of the City of Asuncion' issued by City Authorities.
