Introduction
Cities around the world are looking to become more resilience and sustainable to tackle global challenges, including climate change and the recent Covid-19 pandemic. Information and communication technology (ICT) is playing a central role in accelerating climate actions, coordinating cities’ responses to Covid-19 and more. However, consumption through digital platforms and equipment is not without environmental and climate-related consequences and to advance a green transition through ICTs, standards of smart implementation are required.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) together with Global Forum on Human Settlements are organizing the Session on "Using international standards to build smart sustainable cities and tackle climate change, e-waste and nature loss", which will take place virtually during the 15th Annual Session of Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS 2020) on 15-16 October 2020.

This session will be held from 1330 to 1500 hours on 15 October 2020.

The GFHS 2020 will focus on the theme, “Post-pandemic recovery and transformation: Resilient Cities, Healthy Planet”.

This session will look at the benefits of leveraging international standards to deploy ICTs and how they can ensure that the increased use of ICT solutions during the pandemic is implemented in an environmentally sound, sustainable and safe manner and build back greener after COVID-19.
