Syed Sohail Javaad is a career central banker with 15 years of experience of working with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in areas of IT Systems Implementation, Treasury Operations and Payment Systems. He is presently working as Additional Director in the Payment Systems Department of SBP where he was involved in writing the Rules for Payment Systems Operators and Service Providers that were issued last year. He is also involved in a number of initiatives for strengthening the payment systems and promoting digital financial inclusion in the country. Javaad was also the Project Manager of Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) of the country and the Team Lead for implementing SBP’s Banking System. During his career, he has worked closely with HR, IT, Audit, Risk Management, Banking supervision, Legal Advisory and Operations functions of the Central Bank. He holds an MBA, MSc. in Statistics and an MASC degree in Management Science from University of Waterloo, Canada. During his MASC, he wrote the thesis on the Role of Technology in Addressing the Problem of Financial Exclusion with reference to Pakistan.
