FREIRE Marusa, Central Bank, Brazil

Marusa_Freire_photo.jpgLegal counsel at the Central Bank of Brazil since 1994 (permanent position), having held the position of General Counsel (2010-2011) and Deputy General Counsel (2009-2010). Representative officer of the Central Bank of Brazil at the Advisory Board and Technical Committee of the International Network on Financial Education (INFE/OECD), she is a specialist on Financial Education, Financial Inclusion, Electronic Money and Social Money (Complementary Currencies). In 1998 she completed her Master´s Degree in Law and The State and in 2011 she completed her Doctor´s Degree (PhD) in Law, The State and The Constitution, both at the Faculty of Law, University of Brasília, Brazil.  During this period, she was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University (California, USA), affiliated with the Center for Latin American Studies (2001-2002), and completed an advanced course of study on Financial Law, International Economic Law and Economic Community Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon, Portugal (2002-2003). More recently, she was a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics based in the Legal Department doing a research on “Smart Social Money for Inclusive and Sustainable Finance” (2012-2013).
