High-level policy Dialogue on Digital Health

Digital Health for Healthy Lives and Wellbeing for All

Geneva,  23-24 May 2016

A high-level Policy Dialogue on Digital Health was held in Geneva, Switzerland under the framework of the ITU m-Powering Development Initiative on 23-24 May 2016.

Under the theme, "Digital Health for Healthy Lives and Wellbeing for All" the two-day meeting brought together Ministers of Telecommunication/ICT and Ministers of Health to exchange views on how policies and cross-sectoral collaboration between the two sectors can foster innovation to improve the quality, equity and accessibility of health services in support of the timely attainment of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for "Healthy Lives and Wellbeing for All (SDG3)". Stakeholders from the private sector and Non-Governmental Organizations in both health and telecommunication/ICT fields also participated.

On Monday 23 May, the meeting was held at the Centre International de Conférences Genève (CICG) and will be attended by Ministers of Telecommunication/ICT and other related stakeholders.

 

24 May 2016

The second day of the meeting, was held within the framework of the 69th World Health Assembly(WHA-2016), at the United Nations Palais des Nations. Attended by Ministers of Health together with Ministers of Telecommunication/ICT and other ICT and health related stakeholders, this session facilitated a roundtable Inter-ministerial Dialogue on Information and Communication Technology for Universal Health Coverage.

 

​The m-Powering Development Initiative aims to leverage the phenomenal growth of mobile phone technology to improve access to education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce, banking and in everything that will serve humanity and help achieve sustainable development.

With almost 7.1 mobile subscriptions currently active worldwide, the mobile phone places unprecedented computing technology in the palm of its users, and it is clear that it has become a universal tool with benefits far beyond the voice and text communication originally envisaged.
