Workshop on CIRT services and set up process for African Countries without CIRT, Conakry, 10-12 October 2016

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized a three day workshop on CIRT Services. This workshop covered CIRT (Computer Incident Response Team) services and set up process for African countries without CIRT.

The event took place from 10-12th October 2016 in Conakry, at the kind invitation of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Digital Economy of the Republic of Guinea.

The first day was focusing on Policy and strategies of CIRT, the second day on the creation of a CIRT project and the third day on CIRT management. The fourth day was an open discussion on Guinea's national policy on cybersecurity.

Purpose

The workshop was expected to raise awareness of the participating countries to the services to be provided by a CIRT, the benefit of having a CIRT and the possible mechanisms of funding a CIRT. The main target was to get countries to go for a CIRT implementation with a good picture of their CIRT and its constituencies and how to set it up in a cost efficient way.

At the end of day 3 of the workshop, participants could

Understand the concept of CIRT,
Be able to use a systematic method to select the appropriate services and tools,
Acquire techniques and strategies to create CIRT,
Have the skills to share information in the community of CIRTs,
Handle systematically and effectively cybersecurity incidents.
