  ITU
TELECOM continues to facilitate ‘New Visions’ for the Youth Forum, by
opening a web conference to establish contacts between 100 AFRICA TELECOM
Youth Forum fellows from around the region.
By using a web conference tool, fellows can be more efficient in
preparing their participation at AFRICA TELECOM 2008 Youth Forum. They will
be able to share their ideas and opinions on the topics to be debated before
the event starts, via text or even more sophisticated technical means.
ITU Youth Forum Alumni can join the debate to share experience and good
practices, in order to achieve maximum benefit out this discussion.
Youth Forum participants are expected to come up with a Declaration at
the end of the event. This web conference offers an advance platform to
initiate discussions on relevant issues.
All participants are invited to attend the web conference
During the course of a five-day programme, the Youth Forum will cover three
vital areas:
|
(1) Using ICTs to Bridge the Digital Divide |
(2) Using ICTs to foster socio-economic development
|
|
(3) Implications of
the Digital Society. |
The complete Youth Fourm programme
can be accessed at: http://www.itu.int/AFRICA2008/
|
In line with the above three areas, Youth Forum discussions will focus on the
fields of Technology and applications; policy and regulation; finance and
investment. Participants will discuss how these relate to the ICT industry of
today. They will examine how all industry players, in developed as well as
developing markets can work together for mutual benefit, to make sure that ICTs
act as a prime driver for economic and social development, and how best to
safeguard the fundamental human right to communicate and access information.
The youth fellows will interact with experts during interactive working
sessions, where they will have the opportunity to express their own interests,
hopes and ambitions as well as those of their countries.
