The ITU TELECOM
AFRICA
2001 Forum
is enhanced by the use of a digital voting system
that encourages interactivity between the speakers
and the audience. All participants are provided
handheld devices that allow them to vote on
questions projected on a screen during the
session. The Chairperson and the Multimedia
Moderator have prepared these questions in
advance, in consultation with the speakers. As the
audience cast their votes, the results are
immediately projected onto the screen, thus giving
instant feedback on issues raised by the speakers.
The voting results illustrate the audience’s
reactions to the speakers’ vision of African
telecommunications for the future. By responding
to multiple choices, the participants have been
able to identify the arguments that best
correspond to the situation that they face in
their own environments.
In making the results available here, the ITU
seeks to involve Web site visitors in the debate
with a view to stimulating new creative solutions
to Bridging the Digital Divide.
