Wisdom Accelerator for Youth / WSIS Youth Campaigners

Session 472

Thursday, 2 June 2022 11:00–12:45 (UTC+02:00) Room G3, ITU Varembé Building (with remote participation) Thematic Workshop

Promoting knowledge creation in the digital era: wisdom for young people.

With approximately 1.2 billion people aged 15-24 years accounting for 16% of the global population, young people must be at the forefront of the social change required to address the many global challenges we face today, including inequalities, climate change, wars, pandemic emergence, and others.

It is well known that advancements in digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Robotics will eliminate millions of jobs, and they will create millions of new ones - some of which do not exist yet. This situation raises the question: “what set of skills youth should count on in the future in a world dominated by automated technologies and how/what should they be learning today to be better prepared for these challenges?”

As digital technologies present some challenges, they also offer a vast variety of opportunities for young people to learn, gain wisdom, and become better prepared for the future. Some of the digital technologies used for knowledge and capacity building can include Virtual Reality, AI, gamification or Social Media.

The aim of this workshop is to explore the different and innovative ways of sharing wisdom across cultures and physical barriers. We will share the experience of specialists in this area, and discuss the benefits of embracing digital technologies. We will look at success stories of development platforms to enlarge learning opportunities and lifetime experiences for young people.
