ICTs and older women: Digital Financial Inclusion

Older generations have different needs for Digital financial services than younger ones and they face different challenges in digital access and usage. Aging is a Universal global phenomenon. Aging poses challenges for Digital financial inclusion.

Over 100 million older adults globally still receive government transfers, wages, or pensions in cash. Paying transfers in cash is costly and vulnerable to fraud or theft.

Digital financial services, such as digital payments, allow government transfers, wages, or pensions to efficiently reach those who need them most.

However, for older people Low digital capability, Low financial literacy, Cognitive decline, Physical decline, social isolation living on a fixed income poses great Challenges.

There is a urgent need to support digital and financial literacy skills. Older people are more likely to need tailored provision of up-to-date knowledge and information presented in an appealing, jargon-free way ‒ taking into account their diverse preferences and needs, physical and cognitive capacities.

We can address this challenge by strengthening digital and financial literacy and providing with older people practical skills-self paced learning or guided learning and knowledge to manage in a changing financial landscape through ICT Customised products and Services.

ICT Product, Services and revolution in the Voice Technologies such as audio and video communication can also be used to provide customized responses for those with low levels of literacy or sensory limitations. Voice technology has the potential to improve mental health of the older people by instilling a sense of autonomy, confidence and independence.
