Description

Rationale / Many cities around the world are now implementing a variety of bicycle-sharing
Interpretation / services run either by local community groups or by non-profit organizations, the
Benchmarking municipality, or in conjunction with private operators.
Shared bicycle services can provide instant transportation options for residents and
visitors and avoid the use of automobiles or motorized public transport, thereby
reducing traffic congestion, noise, and air pollution.
An improving trend and higher values are considered positive.
Methodology Calculate as:

Numerator: Number of shared bicycles available.
Denominator: One 100 000th of the city’s population.
Unit Number / 100 000 inhabitants

Data Sources Data can be collected from municipal transportation agencies and/or bicycle-
/ Relevant sharing service operators.
