3 6 5 Geospatial analysis of EEE imports
The Customs Control Office, where the imports enter the country, is one of the variables included
in the databases of the Customs General Directorate. The country has seven Customs Control
Offices divided into three categories: Land Customs, Airport, and Sea Port. Figure 60 shows
the percentages of tracers’ categories entering the country through each Office. The highest
percentage of EEE enters the country by air. Juan Santamaría Airport customs is the one that
reports the highest percentage of entries in all categories (more than 60%), followed by Central
customs, with percentages between 13 per cent and 23 per cent. The rest of the customs offices
report entry percentages lower than 11%.
Figure 60 - Percentage of tracers entering national Customs Offices, by categories
Figure 61 shows the distribution of tracers’ categories, in percentages, for each customs
office. The highest percentage of large electrical appliances entries (washing machines and
refrigerators) is by land through Peñas Blancas customs. The largest entry of flat televisions is
through Paso Canoas customs, followed by La Anexión. The highest percentage of laptops, IT
equipment, and printers enter through Limón customs. La Anexión customs reports the highest
entry of PCs and CRT monitors.
