Altel launched its initial service as a MVNO recently and expected to be offering LTE service at a later stage utilizing the allocated 2.6 GHz spectrum. Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Yaacob

Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Yaacob, 45, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Altel beginning 1 September 2012. As the CEO, his primary responsibilities include enhancing the nation’s network infrastructures and services to meet the constantly evolving applications and rapidly growing number of Internet users as the nation gears towards becoming a fully developed nation by the year 2020. An engineer by training, Nik Abdul Aziz has over 17 years hands-on experience in the business operations of private companies and multinational corporations (MNCs) as well as government agencies and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs). Prior to his appointment, he was the Chief Executive Officer of JARING from March 2011 until August 2012 and a Senior Director in charge of Strategic Information Systems and an Executive Council (EXCO) member of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) from 2008 until 2010. Nik Abdul Aziz has headed major IT formulation and development projects in his capacity as a Senior Vice President with Khazanah Nasional Berhad from 2005 until 2008. He has also previously worked for Hewlett Packard (HP) and Intel in Business Development roles. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and a Master’s Degree in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
