The Future Networked Car drives to the Geneva Motor Show
Interactive meet to build on advances in motorsports and driverless cars
Geneva, 25 February 2014 – Driverless
cars and intelligent transport systems (ITS) demand better collaboration between
the automotive and ICT sectors. The ‘Future Networked Car’, 5-6 March
2014 at the Geneva Motor Show will host experts from the two fields to discuss
the accelerating convergence within the two industry sectors. Registration is
free and
open.
A High-Level dialogue on ‘Innovation for the Future Car will critique
developments with a view to channelling future innovation. The session will be
moderated by former racing driver and Fifth Gear presenter,
Tiff Needell. Jean Todt,
President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), will spearhead
the event’s emphasis on motorsport as an incubator of innovation and technical
advances. Other speakers will include Johan de Nysschen, President, Infiniti
Motor Company; Jeffrey J. Owens, Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice
President, Delphi Automotive and Eva Molnar, Director, Transport Division,
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
Technical sessions will examine the driverless car; the potential of ITS to
reduce emissions and boost convenience by connecting vehicles with one another
and roadside infrastructure; security in the context of networked cars; and the
integration of nomadic devices in vehicles.
A special safety-oriented session, co-sponsored by ITU and Anheuser-Busch InBev
(ABI), will discuss global road safety goals and the role of industry,
government and public-private partnership in driving this agenda.
