ITU to release new country rankings for
mobile, broadband
2013 annual report features pricing, ICT development
indices and analysis for over 160 economies
Geneva, 30
September 2013 –
ITU will release the 2013 edition of its Measuring the Information Society
report on Monday October 7 at a special event featuring interactive panel
discussions with representatives from government, industry and the UN family.
Measuring the Information Society
(MIS) is ITU’s flagship annual analytical report on the state of
technology use, access and affordability worldwide, and features the latest ITU
data and analysis of market developments. It is the world’s most comprehensive
compilation of global ICT statistical indicators, and is widely referenced by
other UN agencies, industry and NGOs.
The report presents the latest results of the ICT Development Index (IDI), an
international benchmarking tool which ranks countries according to their ICT
achievements. It also features the ICT Price Basket (IPB), a unique metric that
tracks and compares the cost and affordability of ICT services across more than
160 countries globally.
In addition, this year’s MIS presents the first complete price data
collection for mobile-broadband services, a model to measure the world’s
‘digital native’ population, and a quantitative overview of digital TV
broadcasting trends.
