Visionary Keynote
at ITU Telecom World 2013 focuses on Internet for All
Telenor Group CEO to give keynote speech on inclusive digital future, CNN’s
John Defterios to moderate
Bangkok, 12 November 2013 – Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President
and CEO of Telenor Group will deliver a Visionary Keynote at ITU Telecom World
2013, the leading platform for networking and debate, held in Bangkok, Thailand
from 19-22 November this year. CNN's Emerging Markets Editor and Global Exchange
anchor John Defterios will act as moderator for the keynote speech.
Global mobile operator Telenor Group is one of the top ten global mobile
operators and a leading player in Asia currently preparing for operations in
Myanmar. Mr Baksaas will share his perspective on how operators can best connect
the most people with mobile Internet and the opportunities this widespread
mobile connectivity will present in the fast-growing region.
“Mobile connectivity is not a luxury good for the elite; it's a necessity for
everyone, driving opportunity and growth,” said Baksaas. “Emerging nations can
use connectivity to leapfrog developmental stages into an inclusive digital
future.”
Taking place on Wednesday, 20 November at 18:00 local time (11:00 UTC) in the
Jupiter rooms at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre in Bangkok, Thailand,
the Visionary Keynote will be webcast live.
“I am very pleased that industry leaders like Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President
and CEO of Telenor, share ITU’s commitment to connect the world,” said ITU
Secretary-General Hamadoun I. Touré. “Digital inclusion is more relevant than
ever in the rapidly transforming ICT sector, and the perspective of Telenor as
both a leading regional player in Asia and a major global operator is of
particular interest. I look forward to attending this session which will be
moderated by CNN's John Defterios.”
