ITU Global Symposium for Regulators set to meet in Colombia
Regulators and industry to focus on broadband rollout and innovation
Geneva, 14 September 2011 - The annual Global Symposium for Regulators is set to meet in Armenia City, Colombia, 21-23 September 2011. The meeting fosters an open dialogue between the worldwide community of regulators and the private sector, investors and consumers.
The Symposium will be preceded by the Global Industry Leaders’ Forum (GILF) on 20 September that will provide a top level international platform for industry leaders and investors to share their views with Regulators and policy makers.
The event is organized by ITU in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and the Communications Regulatory Commission of Colombia.

Participants in the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) and the Global Industry Leaders’ Forum will examine smart regulatory measures needed to promote the roll out of broadband, foster innovation, and address the complexities and challenges of the broadband ecosystem. |
| Who: |
The international ICT regulatory community, policy makers, industry leaders, and regional and international organizations from around the world along with ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré, the Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau Brahima Sanou and the Director of ITU’s Radiocommunication Bureau François Rancy.
The Minister of ICT, Colombia, Mr Diego Molano will preside at the opening and participate in high-level discussions. Mr Julio Cesar López, Governor of Quindío Province will also participate.
The GSR will be chaired by Mr Cristhian Lizcano Ortíz, Executive Director of the Communications Regulatory Commission of Colombia (CRC).
The Chairman of GILF will be Mr Orlando Ayala, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Corporation. |
