ITU as the lead UN organizing agency for the Summit

ITU was the lead UN organizing agency for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). As such the ITU Secretary General was in charge of the Summit and chaired the High Level Summit Organizing Committee.

In line with its mandate and with the WSIS outcome documents, ITU contributes actively to the implementation of the commitments undertaken by World Leaders in Geneva and in Tunis, including:

ITU 's growing membership

The strong presence of the private sector as part of the ITU membership ensures a public/private partnership approach to major issues. ITU's objective is to widen the Union's membership, extend and facilitate cooperative participation with an increasing number of organizations and administrations.

ITU's Council considerations
  • Council WG-WSIS: the 10th meeting of the Council WG-WSIS will take place in Geneva on 12 and 13 September 2006. Meeting documents are available here
