Canada and USA, February 2014 – From 3 to 6 February, the Director travelled to Canada and the USA. “The objective of this mission was to meet with various agencies to build synergies and develop common programmes,”said the Director.
In Ottawa, the Director met with Industry Canada, Public Safety Canada, the Canadian Internet Registration Authority and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. The discussions focused on the upcoming World Development Conference and the ICT4D activities undertaken by the Telecommunication Development Bureau. The m-Powering and the Smart Sustainable Development Model initiatives were also discussed, as well as m-health, digital inclusion, statistics, cybersecurity, policy and regulations.
In Washington the Director met with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the USA ITU Association, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and CITEL. Cybersecurity, emergency telecommunications, Girls in ICTs, and e-health were among the issues discussed.
