ITU-T Workshop “ICTs: Building the green city of the future”

The theme of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 is: "Better City, Better Life" signifying the common wish of humankind for better living standards in future urban environments. Through different sub-themes, Expo 2010 will create blueprints for future cities and harmonious urban life styles, providing an extraordinary educational and entertaining platform for visitors of all nationalities.
Smart buildings, smart grids that will create greater energy efficiency… intelligent transport systems that can get our cities moving again. Multimedia conferencing systems and teleworking technologies that will reduce travel. ICTs have an important role in urban sustainability.
ITU is working on many fronts to foster the use of green ICTs to reduce green house gases.
Within the framework of the Shanghai World Expo 2010, ITU is organizing, in the UN Pavilion a workshop entitled
ICTs: Building the green city of the future, particularly aimed at capturing student visions of ICTs role in providing for urban sustainability.
The workshop is calling for original academic presentations offering innovative approaches addressing this challenge and a prize fund totaling $10,000 will be awarded to the three best presentations.

ICTs: Building the green city of the future is an ITU Kaleidoscope event open to members and non members of ITU, general visitors of the Expo, students, experts and high level industry officials.
Submissions are encouraged by all, but especially young people, students, researchers and professors from universities and research institutions.
ICTs: Building the green city of the future seeks presentations of studies showings the link between ICTs and urban sustainability. Submissions can cover any topic along these broad guidelines but should reflect the sessions listed below.
ICTs: Building the green city of the future aims at increasing the dialogue between academia and experts working on the standardization of ICTs.
