Mr. Afework Temtime is currently working as an Economic Affairs Officer at Frontier and Emerging Technologies, Innovation, and Digital Transformation Section of UNECA. He joined ECA in 2000 and served in various positions in ECA Divisions, including the ICTs, S&T Division; the Strategic Planning, Oversight, and Results Division; and the Technology, Innovation, Connectivity, and Infrastructure Division. He holds an MSc degree in Information Studies from Loughborough University of Technology (UK). He has been involved in various initiatives related to African digital transformation, ICT4D, STI, and programme management over the last 20 years, specializing in areas such as digital policy strategy and regulatory framework, ICT measurement, internet governance, artificial intelligence, project management and quality assurance. He was involved in the World Summit on the Information Society process and the African Internet Governance Forum from the early stages, contributing to capacity-building activities and promoting digital transformation to achieve the SDGs and the aspirations of Agenda 2063.

 

Before joining ECA, he held several positions in Ethiopia, including development information officer at USAID-Ethiopia; documentalist at the International Livestock Research Institute; and information science expert at the National Science and Technology, Information & Documentation Centre of the Ethiopian Science and Technology Commission.
