In the digital age, the spread of online misinformation poses a significant threat to societies worldwide. Online misinformation can undermine trust in institutions, disrupt social harmony, and negatively impact economic stability. As social media and digital platforms become central to the dissemination of information, they also equip online users with the ability to share and spread information instantly and timely. However, distorted content on digital platforms affects entities and creates confusion for individuals to distinguish whether they get true or false information. Hence, there is an urgent need to address the challenges posed by online misinformation to ensure a thriving digital economy.

The objective of this session is to explore effective measures to combat online misinformation in today’s digital landscape, highlighting the role of government, private sector, journalists, international organizations, media group, fact-checkers, and academia in ensuring a reliable and trustworthy digital information  ecosystem. This session at WSIS will bring together high-level stakeholders to discuss strategies and collaborative efforts to combat misinformation. The session aims to uncover strategies and collaborative approaches that safeguard the integrity of digital information and contribute to a trustworthy digital future enabling a sustainable and all-inclusive digital economy.
