The impact of artificial intelligence on the practice of journalism in Africa

This session is dedicated to the changing face of journalism in Africa in the face of new practices such as the use of social networks and artificial intelligence, between risks and new opportunities.

Mr. Frédéric Ballenegger
Mr. Frédéric Ballenegger Communications Specialist, Second Secretary Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN in Geneva Moderator

Frédéric Ballenegger is Deputy Head of Communications at the Swiss Mission to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva. He joined the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs after a 20-year career in various international organizations on four continents, working on issues such as AI and disinformation.


Mr. Frank Kodbaye

A journalist for over a quarter of a century, Frank is originally from Chad. His career began at the weekly newspaper Le Temps, before he moved on to various posts in Switzerland, France and elsewhere, as a freelance journalist, trainer and communications consultant specialized in journalism, climate, energy and digital transformation.


Ms. Brigitte Perrin

Brigitte Perrin is head of strategic communications at the World Meteorological Organization. A former journalist, she has extensive experience of sustainable development issues; she teaches on the challenges of climate communication, the SDGs, data for development, among other issues.


Mr. Jalal Al Makhfi

With 19 years' experience in journalism (Radio Monte Carlo Doualiya, AFP and Dubai TV), translation and training (cybersecurity applied to journalism, data journalism, access to information, etc.), Jalal Al Makhfi is also President of the Club of Accredited Journalists in Morocco. As a journalistic fixer, he has also collaborated with international media such as National Geographic Magazine, BBC, Al Jazeera Arabic-English, beIN Sports, Canal+ and ZDF.
