Online Visibility of Women in Parliament

Omuka Hub

Session 392

Monday, 13 March 2023 16:45–17:45 (UTC+01:00) Room F, CICG, 3rd Floor ICTs and Gender Mainstreaming Thematic Workshop

The Theme for this year's International Women's Day is "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality", and to achieve true gender equality we need to have more women in politics online.

Why is this important?

  1. Women in Parliament do incredible work that is not visible enough
  2. Aspiring girls and young women need to have role models whom can be easily found and tracked
  3. To bridge the gender digital gap, there is a need for policy, legislation and regulatory reform which needs the voices of Women in Parliament
  4. The use of digital tools, innovation and technology can substantially improve upon education, health care, trade and other areas of great interest to Women in Parliament and as such their voice is yet again needed on these agendas

This session therefore aims to discuss reasons why there is a low representation of Women in Parliament online and agree on concrete action points to ensure that this representation is increased.
