Prior to her posting to Geneva, Ms Gorely was Australia’s inaugural Ambassador for Arms Control and Counter-Proliferation, leading Australia’s international advocacy on global arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament. She also concurrently served as First Assistant Secretary, International Security Division, at the Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade.
Ms Gorely previously served as the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, as well as Deputy High Commissioner to New Zealand and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, with earlier postings to Sweden and Denmark. In Canberra, Ms Gorely served as Corporate Counsel and head of the Corporate Legal Branch; Assistant Secretary, WTO Trade Law Branch and Director, International Law Section.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Melbourne.

Hasan Shafaei graduated with honours in Politics and International Relations from London Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. He has more than 30 years’ experience in international human rights, including extensive advocacy work on human rights issues with multilateral organisations. During that time, he has worked closely with the United Nations human rights bodies, as well as national and international human rights organisations. His responsibilities have included monitoring, researching human rights developments in Bahrain and MENA region; gathering and analysing information from a wide variety of sources including governments, UN Agencies, International and National media, NGOs and other credible sources; preparing reports on the human rights situation, raising and discussing human rights issues with governmental bodies in the UK, the EU and the United Nations Commission on Human Rights; providing briefings on human rights in the MENA region to regional and international organizations; and participation in seminars and conferences on human rights, including the annual session in Geneva of the UN Human Rights Council (and previously the Commission on Human Rights and its Sub-Commission to Promote and Protect Human Rights).

Matthew Wilson has over 20 years of experience in Trade and Development. He is currently the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations in Geneva and to the WTO. He has held various senior roles in international organisations including Chief of Special Projects/Partnerships (2021-22) and Chief of Staff (2013-2021) to Executive Director Arancha Gonzalez at the International Trade Centre, the joint development agency of the United Nations, and the World Trade Organization focused on the trade related priorities of micro, small and medium enterprises. He has also served in senior strategic roles at the World Trade Organization including Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the World Trade Organization Director General Pascal Lamy from 2011 to 2013 where he focused on development issues, and as Deputy Aid for Trade Coordinator from 2009-2011.

 


Ms. Patricia Lyn MCCULLAGH

Patricia McCullagh (BA [Commerce, French], University Western, London, Ontario, 1983; MSc [International Political Economy], The London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom, 1988), joined the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in 2003 as senior economist and private sector development team leader. Ms. McCullagh was CIDA’s Director of gender equality from 2005-2007 and was also Director, strategic analysis and operations, Europe, Middle East, Maghreb, Afghanistan, Pakistan CIDA. Overseas, she has served in Kenya, Vietnam, Indonesia, Tanzania. Her first Ambassador post was in Côte d’Ivoire (2015-17) and she was Canadian Ambassador to Algeria (2017-19). Prior to her current posting in Geneva, Ms. McCullagh was Executive Director, Haiti and Canadian Director to the Caribbean Development Bank based in Ottawa.

Since 20 December 2022, Ambassador Espinosa has been the Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations and other International Organization in Geneva. From 2020 to 2022, he served as Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations in New York.  Prior to that appointment he served as his country’s Vice‑Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2019. Mr. Espinosa has served as a career diplomat in Geneva and Japan, as well as Director General of the Andean Community in Lima, Peru. He taught at various universities, including the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (2006 to 2014).  Since 2004, he has also served as a panelist and arbitrator in trade disputes for the World Trade Organization (WTO). The holder of a master’s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Mr. Espinosa also has a bachelor’s and a master’s in philosophy and economics from Boston University.

H.E. Mr. Luke DAUNIVALU (FIJI) Ambassador, Permanent Representative Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva

Luke Daunivalu was posted as Fiji’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organisations in Geneva, Switzerland in June 2022. Prior to his current assignment, he was Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia. He previously served as Ambassador and head of the Permanent Mission of Fiji to the United Nations in New York. In addition to other roles served during his two diplomatic postings in New York, he was Chief Negotiator on Climate Change under Fiji’s Presidency of the 23rd Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 23) and was Deputy Team Leader during Fiji’s Chairmanship of the Group of 77 & China. Before joining Fiji’s foreign service, Mr Daunivalu had worked as a lawyer in Fiji with the Attorney General’s Office, Ministry of Education, Fiji Police Force, and Ministry of Trade and Commerce. He acquired his professional and legal qualifications from Australia, Fiji and the United Kingdom.

Henri Verdier, born in 1968, is the French Ambassador for Digital Affairs within the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Since 2018, he leads and coordinates the French Digital Diplomacy.
He previously was the inter-ministerial director for digital information and communications systems (DG DINUM) of France; and he was the director of Etalab, the French agency for public open data.
Mr Verdier is also an entrepreneur: he was the co-founder and CEO of MFG Labs, an internet-based startup involved in social data mining, and chairman of the board of Cap Digital, the French-European Cluster for Digital Content and Services, located in Paris. He is member of the ARCEP strategic committee, member of the CNIL strategic committee and also served as member of the board of ParisSorbonne University. In addition, Mr Verdier was the founding director of Edition Odile Jacob Multimedia, a publishing company in the field of e-learning and executive adviser for innovation at Lagardère Group as well as director of foresight at Institut Telecom.
He co-authored three books: in 2012, with Nicolas Colin, L'Age de la Multitude, Entreprendre et Gouverner Après la Révolution Numérique (The Age of Multitude, Entrepreneurship and Governance After the Digital Revolution), in 2017, with Pierre Pezziardi, Des Startup d’État à l’État plateforme ( From State Startups to the Platform State), and in 2022, with Jean-Louis Missika, Le Business de la haine : Internet, la démocratie et les réseaux sociaux ( The Business of Hate: Internet, Democracy and Social Networks ). Mr Verdier is a graduate of Ecole Normale Supérieure.

Ambassador Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard has been serving as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and other international organizations in Geneva since December 2021.
Before his appointment in Geneva, Mr. Ruddyard served as Deputy Minister for Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta from 2017 – 2021. During this period, he was appointed as the Governor of the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), the Co-Chair of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) Countering Violent Extremism Working Group (CVE WG), and Co-Chair of the Senior Official Meeting (SOM) of the Bali Process.
Ambassador Ruddyard joined the Indonesian diplomatic corps in 1990 and has a long record of working in various areas of issues and positions. Among others are Director for Middle East Affairs (2013-2014) and Director for International Security and Disarmament Affairs (2010-2013).
From 2015 to 2017, Mr. Ruddyard served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at Indonesian Embassy in Vienna. His diplomatic assignment includes the Indonesian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, and Riyadh. Mr. Ruddyard also served as the Coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Disarmament Affairs in New York from 2007-2010.
Ambassador Ruddyard holds a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Birmingham. He is married with three sons.

Ambassador Meirav Eilon Shahar was appointed Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva in August 2020, after previous positions in the multilateral arena. Prior to this mission, she served as Deputy Director-General for Coordination and Policy Planning (2017-2020), and as Israel’s Ambassador to Vietnam between 2012 and July 2017. Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995, Meirav Eilon Shahar has represented Israel in a number of different capacities and served in Los Angeles (2000-2002), at the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York (2005-2009) and in Nairobi (1997-2000).

Ambassador HONSEI Kozo has assumed his duty as a Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the International Organizations in Geneva in October 2021.
Prior to this assignment, Ambassador Honsei served as a Director-General / Assistant Minister (Ambassador) for Disarmament, Non-proliferation and Science Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Honsei’s other senior positions include: Senior Vice President, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); Director at the Financial Affairs Division, Minister's Secretariat; Director (twice) as regional and policy coordinator in the International Cooperation Bureau; Regional Director, Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau; as well as a position of a Director, International Science Cooperation Division, Foreign Policy Bureau.
Ambassador Honsei’s diplomatic assignments include two positions at the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, as well as positions in the Embassies of Japan in Spain and Mexico.

H.E. Mr. Cleopa Kilonzo MAILU is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland. Prior to his appointment in January 2018, as the Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations in Geneva, Amb. Dr. Cleopa Mailu was the Cabinet Secretary for Health since 2015. In his long and illustrious career in Public service, Dr. Mailu held key Professional, Management and Leadership positions in the Ministry of Health, Kenyatta National Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Private Sector. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi Hospital, the leading Private hospital in Kenya for 12 years.

 


H.E. Mr. Bahtijors HASANS (LATVIA)

Since the start of his diplomatic career in 1993, Bahtijors Hasans has worked at the CIS Department and the European Union Coordination Department, has been Head of the Asia and Africa Division and served at the embassies of Latvia in Uzbekistan, Sweden, and Finland. He has also been posted as Latvia's Ambassador to Slovenia, Kosovo, and to the UN, OSCE and other international organisations in Vienna. Bahtijors Hasans holds Master’s degree in Law as well as in the Latvian Language and Literature with a translator’s qualification from the University of Latvia. From 2017 up until the present posting, Bahtijors Hasans was Head of the Consular and Diplomatic Facilities Directorate.

Dr. Lamia Fathi Abusedra, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, the new Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations Office at Geneva presented on the 3rd of May 2022 her credentials to H.E. Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva. Prior to her appointment to Geneva, she was the first official female nominee for the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs in Libya in 2021. Dr. Abusedra had been serving as an Advisor to the Minister of State for Institution Reform and Head of Restructuration and Reform Office where she participated in the restructuring of numerous government institutions including the Ministry of Economy & Industry, refugee & migration agencies, media oversight authority, local governance & decentralization initiatives, and other government agencies from 2017 to 2020.

H.E. Mr. Darius STANIULIS (LITHUANIA) Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva (since 10 January 2022), Permanent Representative and head of the Permanent Mission of Lithuania in Geneva.

After law studies focusing on international law in Lithuania and the UK he joined the Lithuanian Diplomatic Service in 1993 and served in different positions at the MFA, as well as in the Consulate General in New York, the Permanent Mission in Geneva, and the Permanent Representation to the European Union. He also was seconded to the OSCE Mission to Georgia.

With first assignments in legal and consular areas, in 2001 he moved to the human rights issues, which mostly included involvement in activities at the UN and expert committees of the Council of Europe. In 2004 he was appointed as the Head of the Human Rights Division of the Lithuanian MFA. Focus on human rights was further continued during posting in the Permanent Mission of Lithuania in Geneva in 2008-2011. After this posting he was appointed as the Deputy Director of the United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he continued work on human rights issues, as well as was involved in successful  Lithuania’s UN Security Council election campaign and further activities of the UN SC. In 2015-2018 he worked as Minister Plenipotentiary of the Permanent Representation to the EU in charge of RELEX issues. In 2018 he returned to the United Nations, International Organizations and Human Rights Department and was appointed its Director, in which capacity he worked until the beginning of 2022.

 


H.E. Caroline C.S Bwanali-Mussa (MALAWI)
H.E. Caroline C.S Bwanali-Mussa (MALAWI) Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malawi to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva

Ambassador Caroline Cyrenia Sakina Bwanali-Mussa holds master’s degree of Education - English Language Teaching obtained from Gazi University, Turkey in 2000. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree of Education (Honours) - English Language obtained in 1994 from University of Gezira, Sudan. In 1991, she obtained a Diploma in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies from African Islamic University, Sudan.
Ambassador Bwanali-Mussa was privileged to serve as Malawi’s Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, to the Arab Republic of Egypt and ten other countries in North Africa and Middle East on non-residential accreditation from August 2015 to April 2022.
The Ambassador is a seasoned educationist and a communication expert whom prior to her appointment as an ambassador, served as a lecturer in the Language and Communication Department at the Polytechnic - University of Malawi from 2001 to 2015 and took various managerial positions as follows:
➢ Dean of Faculty of Education and Media Studies from 2011 to 2013;
➢ Faculty Representative on University of Malawi Senate from 2014 to 2015; and
➢ Head of Languages and Communication Department from 2004 to 2008.
Ambassador Caroline had also the honor to serve on various college, university, national committees and organizations as a member and/or chair. In her community outreach endeavors, Ambassador Bwanali-Mussa served as an Executive member of Public Affairs Committee (PAC) from 2011, a Vice Board Chairperson for Malawi Interfaith Aids Association (MIAA) from 2014 and the National Coordinator of Qadriya Muslim Association of Malawi for Women.
Ms. Bwanali-Mussa competently communicates in English, Yao and Chichewa languages and she comfortably converses in Arabic and Turkish.

H.E. Mrs. Francisca E. MÉNDEZ ESCOBAR (MEXICO)
H.E. Ms. Francisca E. MÉNDEZ ESCOBAR (MEXICO) Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva

Ambassador Méndez was born in Mexico City. She entered the Diplomatic Service of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991. She graduated as a BSc in Political Sciences and Public Administration and a MSc in Latin American Studies from the Mexican National Autonomous University (UNAM). She obtained her second MSc in Law and Economics from the Milan State University in Italy. She has diplomas in international politics, public diplomacy and Arab studies, the latter with professors from the University of Oxford.

Prior to her appointment to Geneva, H.E. Mrs. Méndez had been serving as Ambassador of Mexico to the United Arab Emirates, from January 2017 to January 2022, also covering Iraq.

In the Mexican Foreign Service Headquarters, Ambassador Méndez worked in the Department of Political Affairs and the Caribbean, in the Directorate for United Nations and in the Directorate for Global Affairs.

She was a Deputy Counselor in the Consulates in Milan and Barcelona. In the latter, she spent a year and a half in charge of the Consulate. Following these postings, Ambassador Méndez was Deputy Head of Mission in Romania, Costa Rica and Spain where she ended her assignment as Chargé affairs for eight months. As part of her international assignments, she acted as Deputy Head of Mission for European Union, Kingdom of Belgium and Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg.

 


H.E. Ms. Julia IMENE-CHANDURU (NAMIBIA)
H.E. Ms. Julia IMENE-CHANDURU (NAMIBIA) Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative Permanent Mission of the Republic of Namibia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva

Ambassador Julia Imene-Chanduru is the Namibian Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations Organisations in Geneva and other International Organisations and to Switzerland. Before taking up this position in January 2021, Ms. Imene-Chanduru was the Deputy Permanent Representative of Namibia to the United Nations from 2018.

Ambassador Imene-Chanduru joined the Namibian Foreign Service in 2004 and has, over the course of her career, assumed roles that cumulatively give her close to twenty years’ experience in bi and multilateral diplomacy, public policy, international relations and negotiations.

In addition to providing executive and administrative support to the Minister and Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Imene-Chanduru also served at the Namibian Embassy in Washington 2007-2011.

Ambassador Imene-Chanduru holds a Masters in International Service from the American University in Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, from the University of Namibia. She also holds certificates in Conflict Resolution, Negotiation and Mediation (DIRCO); Doing Diplomacy in the Age of Global Governance (Vienna Diplomacy Institute); Mastering Negotiations: Building Bridges Across Boundaries (Harvard), among others.

She is an avid reader, who is passionate about the environment and issues affecting women and girls. She is married with two daughters.

 


Mr. Marcel VERNOOIJ (NETHERLANDS)
Mr. Marcel VERNOOIJ (NETHERLANDS) Minister Plenipotentiary (Economic Affairs), Deputy Permanent Representative Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva

Marcel Vernooij is Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) / Head Economic and Development Affairs at the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Geneva.
 
Mr Vernooij has been working for the Government of the Netherlands for 33 years, with senior functions at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Affairs, and Agriculture & Nature Management. He has been responsible for programs for private sector development, trade, agro-industries, agriculture, food security, nature conservation, development cooperation and sustainable development.
 
In addition to his work with Geneva based institutions, he has participated in the Commission on Sustainable Development, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and agreements for tropical timber, coffee and cocoa. He has been actively involved in bilateral co-operation with several partner countries.
 
Marcel Vernooij graduated in biology at Leiden University, with a specialization in environmental sciences and sustainable development.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Ambassador Adejola had been serving as Deputy Head of Mission at Nigeria’s Embassy to Ethiopia and Deputy Head of Mission at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union in Addis Ababa since 2019.
 
He has served in various sections of the Nigerian Foreign Service in the course of his career, including: Directing Staff, Foreign Service Academy 1993-1994; United Nations Security Council Desk Officer, International Organizations Directorate 1995-1998; Counsellor, Policy Planning, Research and Statistics 2000–2003; Special Assistant and Political Officer, Office of the Chief of Staff to the President 2007-2010; Secretary, Committee on Rationalisation of Nigeria’s Representation in Missions Abroad 2016-2017; Acting Director, Policy Planning, Research and Statistics Division April 2016 – August 2017; Acting Director, Second United Nations Division, International Organizations Department August 2017 - August 2018; and Acting Director, International Organizations Department August 2018 – February 2019.
 
He has also served in Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago 1998-2000; London, United Kingdom 2003-2007; United Nations Headquarters in New York 2010-2016; and African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa February 2019 to date. He has represented Nigeria in numerous regional and international meetings and conferences, and has a number of publications.
 
Mr. Adejola joined the Foreign Service of Nigeria on 11 October 1993. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in international relations. He was born on 23 December 1964 in Ogun, Nigeria, and is married with two children.

On 8 December 2020, Teuta Agai-Demjaha, was appointed as the new Permanent Representative of North Macedonia to the United Nations and other IOs in Geneva. Teuta Agai-Demjaha is a medical doctor specialized in Internal Medicine and Public Health. She holds a Master of Science and a PhD in Public Health from the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje. She has 30 years of multidisciplinary working experience with areas of expertise stretching to health policy reforms, health education and promotion, human rights with special emphasis on anti-Semitism and Holocaust, gender equality, and management of regional interethnic and multicultural projects.

Tatiana Molcean is serving as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Geneva since September 2020.  
Ambassador Molcean is a career diplomat, who joined the Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Moldova in 2004. Previously to her posting in Geneva, Ms. Molcean served for 3 years as State Secretary (Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Moldova. 
Her current mandate includes a wide range of areas, both related to the multilateral issues ranging from security, human rights, to trade, IT, intellectual property rights, infrastructure, and sustainable development, as well as bilateral cooperation with the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Mr. Hassan Hamid Hassan HAMID started his diplomatic career as third secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan in 1993. He got promoted and transferred to work as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Sudan in Islamabad from December 1995 to December 1999. In 2000 he moved to head office in Khartoum, where he served as Deputy Director of the Ministerial Office. Between 2002 and 2013, he served at the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations in New York as First Secretary, Counselor, and Minister Plenipotentiary, before being appointed Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Sudan to United Nations in New York from 2013-2016. Since 2017, he has been working as Director of Peace and Humanitarian Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sudan. In June 2022, he has been appointed as Permanent Representative of Sudan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sudan to the Swiss Confederation.

Maria de Lurdes Bessa is the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. Prior to her appointment to Geneva, Ms. Bessa had been serving as a personal advisor to the President of Timor-Leste since November 2018. She was Vice Minister of Education from September 2017 to June 2018, and she served as a Member of the National Parliament from 2012 to 2017. Ms. Bessa has a bachelor’s degree in modern languages and literature from the Faculty of Letters, Porto University, Portugal.

Ambassador Sabri BACHTOBJI was appointed Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations Office and other Organizations in Geneva in March 2020. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. 

Posted to Madrid (Spain) in 1993, and Rome (Italy) in 2003, then appointed in March 2010 as Consul General of Tunisia in Lyon (France). In April 2013, he was appointed Ambassador of Tunisia to Brazil, and on August 2016, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. On 29 October 2019, he was appointed Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs. Born on October 3, 1963 in Menzel Temime, Ambassador BACHTOBJI holds a master's degree in Arabic, French and Spanish as well as a master's degree in law from the Faculty of Political and Social Legal Sciences in Tunis.

He is fluent in six languages: Arabic, French, English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Hema Kotecha was appointed Deputy Head of the UK Mission to the UN, WTO and other International Organisations in Geneva in May 2022.  Before that she was Silver Political in the Russia/Ukraine crisis structures, Head of Economic Diplomacy and worked on the Covid crisis operation at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London.  From 2017-2020 Hema was Counsellor and head of UK programme funds at the British Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine. She has also served as the Regional Conflict Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa, from 2012-2017, first based in the British Embassy in Tunis, then working across the Middle East from London. Prior to that she was Head of Analysis and Information at the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia and held a series of roles with the OSCE, UN and in foreign policy think-tanks in London and in Brussels.

Prior to her appointment, to Geneva, Ms. Maimuna served as a Permanent Secretary in several Ministries from 2006 – 2019; Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government. From 2005 – 2006, she served as the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office - Regional Administration and Local Government. She also served as the Deputy Secretary of the Public Service Commission (Local Government Service) from 2004 – 2005.

Bathsheba “Sheba” Nell Crocker was confirmed by the Senate on December 18, 2021, and sworn in on December 21, 2021, as U.S. Permanent Representative to the Office of the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, with the rank of Ambassador. 

Ambassador Crocker most recently served as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State.  From 2017-2020, she was a Vice President covering humanitarian issues at CARE USA. Ambassador Crocker previously served in several positions at the Department of State, including as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs from 2014 to 2017, Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State, Principal Deputy Director in the Office of Policy Planning at the Department of State, and Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary of State. 

From 2008 to 2009, Ambassador Crocker was a Senior Policy and Advocacy Officer for International Affairs at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She was the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support at the UN Peacebuilding Support Office from 2007 to 2008. From 2005 to 2007, Ambassador Crocker was the Deputy Chief of Staff to the UN Special Envoy at the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery. Ambassador Crocker worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on the Post-Conflict Reconstruction Project as a Fellow and Co-Director from 2003 to 2005 and as an International Affairs Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations from 2002 to 2003.
