Virtual Reality for SDGs

Pursuing a first partnership in 2016, WSIS and World VR Forum join forces to be at the forefront of Virtual Reality for advancing development. A shiny new Virtual Reality Track will be held at the WSIS Forum 2017 bringing together high-level personalities, world class VR experience and a very special focus on education.

1. WSIS Forum 2017 Interactive Program

a. Urban Planning (IAO VR)

IAO VR

The Nilouphar residence was to be built by spring 2017. It would have been one of the first constructions to benefit from new construction rules aimed at densifying a neighbourhood of the villa area of the Collonge-Bellerive district in Geneva. Neighbours concerned about the impact of the size that this large house could have had a recourse that suspended work and induced a blockage that can last up to a year and a half. To convince the neighbourhood, the architects presented cardboard models at different scales with 3D images. These visualization tools specific to the profession, often poorly adapted to the general public, make it difficult to project in space. The immersive VR is currently the only way that a philistine can sneak into the head of an architect or urban planner. The understanding and vision of future spatial materiality is immediate when looking through a virtual reality helmet. We are convinced that it will henceforth be essential for public administrations concerned with regional planning as well as for real estate development companies and finally for the neighbours with any new construction. We look forward to seeing you there.

b. Creative Expression (Tilt Brush)

Tilt Brush

Tilt Brush lets you paint in 3D space with virtual reality. Your room is your canvas. Your palette is your imagination. The possibilities are endless even fire. Experience painting as you have never before.

The Blu

The Blu: Encounter transports you into a gorgeous virtual reality ocean experience to have a close encounter with the largest creature on the planet. Imagine what it is like coming face-to-face with an 80-foot blue whale, whose eye ball is almost the size of your entire face. An experience which feels real, but clearly couldn't possibly be so, with a sense of uncanny scale and unexpected empathy.
