Building Trust in Cyberspace – Working Together

Securing and building trust in Cyberspace is a complex and multifaceted domain covering technical, legal and socio-economic aspects of a gamut of issues, such as infrastructure security, identity management, privacy, and consumer protection, among others.

Many different stakeholders, with diverse interests and expertise, are therefore engaged in the various discussions on these and other issues, through various forums and processes; many of which have been launched in recent years and are in different stages of maturity.

It’s important that these various efforts are well aligned towards the common global goal of a safe and trustworthy cyberspace, and international cooperation is therefore a vital component.  It is well recognized that this common global goal cannot be achieved by just a set of countries or a set of stakeholders working in isolation: everyone needs to work together – all stakeholders from all nations.

For the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), in its role as the lead facilitator of WSIS Action Line C5 (building confidence and security in the use of ICTs), ITU is organizing this High Level Dialogue (HLD).  This HLD brings together key actors from some of the major efforts in recent years to present and discuss their perspective on these different efforts, identify any gaps, and also give recommendations for further improvement.
