More than CHF 140 000 confirmed for the WSIS Fundraising Campaign
Geneva, 20 September 2004 - The WSIS-2005 Fundraising Campaign received a boost as several stakeholders stepped forward to announce new financial contributions
in recent weeks to support the core preparatory activities of the Tunis phase. ITU Secretary-General Yoshio Utsumi expressed his gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman (CHF 100 000), the Syrian Arab Republic (CHF 12 500) and Senegal (CHF 20 000) as well as the Universal Postal Union (CHF 10 000) for their support and leadership in the WSIS process. Mr Utsumi said, “I am pleased to see the continued support of stakeholders for our fundraising campaign, which is crucial for the organization of the Tunis phase of
WSIS.”
The WSIS-2005 Fundraising Campaign has now reached 28 per cent of its goal of raising at least CHF 5 million in financial contributions to support core preparatory activities of the Tunis phase, which are entirely dependent on voluntary contributions to a special fund established by ITU. The total WSIS fund now stands at over CHF 1.4 million.
