Item The Artificial Intelligence Robot for Cement Testing
Model Training The model architecture and a significant portion of the training were
and Fine-Tuning conducted at the manufacturer's facility under close monitoring. 4.5: Manufacturing
Fine-tuning, training, and validation, including testing 60 dummy samples
manually and then with the automated system, were conducted at the
Dubai Central Laboratory to ensure process alignment.
The results were then evaluated according to BS EN 196 standards.
Testbeds or Pilot The automated process was planned at the Dubai Central Laboratory and
Deployments implemented at a manufacturing facility. The AI/ML system's suitability
and acceptance were regularly monitored.
2 Use Case Description
21 Description
Traditional XRF analysis has long been characterized by labour-intensive and time-consuming
processes, where significant human involvement in critical steps introduces potential errors
and raises safety concerns for laboratory personnel. The objective has always been to reduce
this human involvement, thereby enhancing safety, improving efficiency, and minimizing errors
in cement testing.
The introduction of the robotic XRF cement analyser marks a groundbreaking innovation in
materials analysis, being the first of its kind in the region[2]. This intelligent robotic laboratory
system automates the entire cement testing process—including sample preparation, analysis,
and transportation—drastically reducing human intervention. By limiting direct human interaction
with hazardous materials, it significantly enhances safety, while also improving operational
efficiency and minimizing human errors.
A key element of this system is its integrated AI platform. This AI-powered platform monitors
and controls the entire operation, governing hardware components such as weighing balances,
bead preparation units, XRF analysers, and robotic apparatus. It dynamically optimizes the
testing process, ensuring high repeatability and accuracy. The system employs SuperQ
software, which works in tandem with the AI to guarantee adherence to industry standards
like BS EN 196-2: Clause 5 and BS ISO 29581-2:2010. Furthermore, the advanced AI seamlessly
merges, validates, and distributes generated results with minimal or no human intervention.
By integrating AI and advanced automation, this technology dramatically lowers operational
costs and elevates the precision and reliability of cement analysis. Laboratories can now achieve
unmatched consistency, efficiency, and safety, ultimately setting new standards for productivity
and accuracy within the industry.
