2 Use Case Description
21 Description
Context Change 4.2-Climate
As elephant habitats shrink due to agricultural expansion, elephants increasingly interact with
human settlements, leading to dangerous and costly conflict. These events damage crops
and properties, cause injuries, and endanger elephant populations due to retaliatory actions.
Objectives
This use case aims to reduce human-elephant conflict through a smart, proactive AI-driven
solution that:
1. Tracks elephants using GPS
2. Monitors proximity to danger zones via AI-based geofencing
3. Sends real-time alerts to communities via GSM
4. Activates non-lethal deterrents
5. Logs data for long-term behavioral analysis and system improvement
Innovation
The solution integrates GPS collars, GSM alerts, AI logic, and smart deterrents such as buzzers
and strobes. A microcontroller processes data in real time, and future upgrades will introduce
machine learning models for predicting elephant behavior based on logged data.
Expected Impact
• Protects crops and properties through early intervention
• Enhances community safety
• Reduces retaliatory killings, aiding conservation
• Enables data-driven strategies for wildlife authorities
• Scales to other wildlife conflict scenarios
Use Case Status: Prototype developed; deployment planned in wildlife corridors
