Abstract :

This document aims to update the ITU membership, following the last Study Group 1 meeting held from 28 April to 2 May 2025, on BDT's activities ICT/digital accessibility (Document 1/531) aimed at advancing regional and global digital inclusion and enabling the equal and equitable use of ICT products and services by all people, including those in vulnerable situations (as defined in Resolution 64).
In light of the expanded scope of the Question, which also encompasses consumer protection, these activities contribute to strengthening the capacity of policymakers and decision-makers to integrate ICT/digital accessibility principles and requirements into policy, regulatory, and consumer protection frameworks. By embedding accessibility in the design and delivery of digital products and services, consumer protection can be strengthened and extended to all users, including persons with disabilities, older persons, individuals with low literacy levels, and other groups that may otherwise face barriers in accessing and using digital services.
ITU members are invited to take note of these activities and disseminate the information shared by BDT within their professional networks and relevant national and regional stakeholder communities to jointly advance implementation of this agenda.
