Financing Mechanisms
ITU is not a funding entity. Our projects depend on the extra-budgetary funds mobilized for each specific intervention. The list below presents some of the funding instruments used to mobilize funds in support of our projects.
Trust funds
Trust funds from third parties are used to cover the costs of ITU projects. Trust funds are voluntary contributions with specific and restrictive utilization. These contributions generate support costs during the execution and implementation of the projects. In all cases the funds have to be credited to the projects before the expenses are committed.

ICT Development Fund
The ICT Development Fund (ICT-DF) contributes to sustainable development through the co-financing of ICT national, regional and global development projects.
The ICT-DF is managed by ITU and provides complementary funding seed funding to co-finances projects with partners from ITU Members, the public and private sector, multilateral organizations, financial institutions and development agencies.
ICT-DF is mainly targeted at supporting the least developed countries (LDCs), small island developing states (SIDS), landlocked developing countries, countries with economies in transition and/or countries in special need (countries emerging out of the war situations and/or natural disasters). The ICT-DF is open to receive voluntary contributions from partners.
