Definition / Percentage of households with access to a basic water supply
Description
Rationale / Access to drinking water is a fundamental need and a vital human right. About 1.1
Interpretation / billion people have no access to any type of improved drinking source of water.
Benchmarking 1.6 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases attributable to lack
of safe drinking water and basic sanitation. The health and economic benefits of
improved water supply to households and individuals are well documented.
Basic water sources include: piped water, public tap, borehole or pump, protected
well, protected spring or rainwater.
An improving trend and higher values are considered positive.

Denominator: Total number of city households.
Multiply by 100.
