Frontier Technologies to Protect the Environment and Tackle Climate Change
Scaling frontier technologies is particularly vital for achieving widespread impact and lower deployment
costs. As this report shows, most deployments vary significantly in the level of interest, investment,
scale and complexity according to geography. Further research, processes and standardization efforts
are needed to identify successful-use cases of frontier technologies in the context of climate change
and response in order to eventually scale them nationally, regionally and – ultimately – globally.
Lastly, addressing climate change is everyone’s responsibility, not just of the UN Member States but
also of, as the UN Secretary-General remarked recently, ‘the full constellation of partners, including
cities, local officials, the private sector, finance institutions, the philanthropic community and civil
society.’ “Bottom up” ambition everywhere, therefore, is crucial. 263
