Table I.7 – Use case –Scientific workflow provenance
Title Provenance information collection and query of scientific workflow
Description Scientific workflow is a typical application system, facilitating e-Science. Scientists model,
design, execute, debug, re-configure and re-run their analysis. Provenance information in the
scientific workflow system is very useful for a scientist to interpret their workflow results and
for other scientists to establish trust in the experimental result.
The BDSP (scientific workflow system) initiates provenance information automatically, and
stores the provenance information in database. BDC (scientists) need to retrieve the
provenance information to confirm the source of the scientific data on experiment or analysis
process. The BDSP stores provenance information automatically when data status is changed
to support for frequent retrieving.
